Tränke St. Blasien – Always Mine

Staff of Tränke St. Blasien

Somethings do never change! When I still visited school in St. Blasien to get my A-Level a new restaurant opened 1981 or around the time. This guesthouse always had quite good food: simple Black Forest food, like Brägel or “Wurstsalat”, Flammkuchen – Tarte Flambée – Steaks or Italian Pizza. And it’s still in St. Blasien! Several owners changed, and the current Kosovar owner – he worked before as cook there – seems to make still very good, so that when I am home you mostly will find me the first evening in Traenke.

This time I decided for pork filet, Spaetzle – some kind of pasta of the area – and mushroom sauce. And as you can see there is a small glass for pils with Rothaus from the tap.

Rothaus is a small village which belongs to Grafenhausen. 1791 the former prince-abbot Martin Gerbert foundet – from the benedictine monastery of St. Blasien – the brewery in the Reichherrschaft Rothaus. When the monks had to leave their monastery in St. Blasien 1806 through the secularisation startet from war against France and Napoleon Bonaparte the property goes to the grand duchy of Baden and is still owned by the state brewery.

It’s not a small dish they brought me as food and I am happy that this dish already have been there 35 years ago.

And because I am someone who has his specially wishes, I like for example a Swiss Wurtsalat or an Alsatian Wurtstalat mad half of cheese; and this salad with pizza bread is really yummy!

So, the Traenke in St. Blasien spills part of a good mood through the slow evening in the High Black Forrest. And through the summer with – at 770 meters above the sea – not such high temperatures which may like happend in other parts of Germany – the small beer garden is a fresh and cool place where you can meet with your friends!

Jeto, remeber the old blue coach T3 from Volkswagen many years ago? I hope you know now that – if there is a smal light blinking close to the thermometer of the motor – for sure the motor needs additional oil…!
