What are the first things you have to explore in a new city: Where will I be able to go shopping? How do I do my laundry? And as third one: Where can I get food!

One of the first things I did was to explore Frankfurt. Well, just around the place I lived in Frankfurt. And Frankfurt is …just Frankfurt! All the years I have been travelling through Germany business-wise, I nearly never had Frankfurt on my plate. And I had to say, Frankfurt did not really jump to the list of the cities I should visit. But this may change…

While I walked around my location at Westend – a part of Frankfurt, close to the centre of the city – a found a couple of restaurant, that could (beside the Phuket Thai Imbiss) a regular place to go in the evening and get something to eat.

Yumeya ... so schmeckt Japan

Yumeya … so schmeckt Japan

One of those is ‘Yumeya … So schmeckt Japan” right around the corner – yes, I know boys – of my place. A Japanese restaurant directly in front of my feet? I have to say that I remembered my times in London when I also had a Japanese fast food restaurant 10 minutes to walk, Wagamama, and this was really not bad. Decision made, I went in, and had a Maisels Hefeweissbier while I am studying the menu.

I decided for a starter with the things I had as well in London: Gyosa with pork and later ‘Jigoku Ramen’, because this ramen was pictured with a small devil – really spicy. Everything went down quite well and I decided to come here again next week.

Takoyaki - Stuffed Pastry with Octopus

Takoyaki – Stuffed Pastry with Octopus

This time I was a bit early and had time to talk with one of the German waiter a bit – by the way, they also have Japanese staff as waiters. He told me that in Yumeya they made – except one dish – all by themselves and that the cooks were all Japanese guys. He was wondering why I could eat so spicy, because all the German guys to come to the restaurant mostly said: ‘Not too spicy, please!”

They really do all this dishes by them self? This time I decided for a ‘Chili TanTanMen’ ramen and a ‘Takoyaki’ – small pastry balls, stuffed with octopus – as some kind of starter. And, what a surprise, the Takoyaki and the ramen were really delicious! Just put some soya sauce for the ramen and – voilà – I found the two dishes I mostly decide for when I come back to this restaurant. They even have the ramen in a smaller dish, because you maybe want to have a starter or a side dish – the regular ramen normally would be too much!

So, go on guys, you have a great restaurant in Frankfurt and really yummy food! I promise I will come back to you again! Dōmo Arigatō!
